Datin Paduka Khatijah Sulieman, President of Rumah Amal Cheshire Selangor

THE desire to see the disabled leading a better life prompted Datin Paduka Khatijah Sulieman to help them.
She started volunteering at the Selangor Cheshire Home about 40 years ago — a time when the number of locals doing such work was very low.
“I realised that these expatriates would leave the country after a few years and it was our responsibility to take care of fellow Malaysians,” said Khatijah, who is the home’s president.
Established in 1963, the home located in Selayang, provides residential care for those who are permanently disabled and without means or resources.
Currently, there are 40 residents and 30 caregivers residing at the home.
